Yoga functions physically as a flexibility activity that also promotes spiritual and mental health. To make it easier for beginners, there is a new innovation called Bikram Yoga. It is a yoga method that still uses expert yoga poses in a hot room. The warm condition makes the body more flexible than in normal condition. The change in temperature also makes the people who are in training sweat and perspire thus burning more fat in the body. There are 26 postures in Bikram Yoga. It is chosen by the innovator who created Bikram and is theoretically a systematic method to promote weight loss and fat burning processes.
Aside from the noticeable hot room method, the 26 asanas or poses is in increasing yoga difficulties. It is not normal that beginners on yoga will not be able to make the postures in its 100% form. The professional instructors will be present to help trainees do the poses or even a little of its accuracy. Basically, the 26 asanas are divided into two parts; 12 postures for standing stance and 14 for lying stance. The standing stances can be said to increase more on the balance side. It promotes balance while standing such as the Tree Pose and Eagle Pose.
The lying stances in Bikram Yoga are more into flexibility. The Bow and Full Locust Poses induce lower body strength and flexibility of the stomach area. This is also true for the Fixed Firm Pose and the Locust Pose. It enables the trainee to maintain flexible stomach and lower body area such as the Camel Pose. For persons who are already experts in the field, there is the Spine Twisting Pose and the Balancing Stick. These are very difficult poses that can be only achieved by some in its perfect pose. Not only flexibility, almost all the asanas or poses in the Bikram Yoga also needs muscle strength. Strength is used to support the body when doing poses either in lying or standing poses.
Since Bikram Yoga is still yoga, it also has breathing stances. These breathing stances are used in the beginning and in the end process. This helps the body relax and be more flexible during poses. The starting pose is called Standing Deep Breathing. It is a standing pose that helps the body and mind relax for the tedious process of poses ahead. The end breathing exercise is a sitting position. It is called the Blowing in Firm Pose. It is a pose that is made after the work out and fully relaxes the body. It is a standard pose for basic yoga that is also included in Bikram Yoga since breathing is a vital part of the whole process.
